Our beginner rowing courses in Brentford are structured to give you a complete introduction to rowing technique, equipment and safety.

 

During the course you will learn:
  • An introduction to Brentford Boat Club and our boathouse
  • The fundamentals of the rowing stroke using indoor rowing machines (ergos)
  • The main parts of a rowing boat and equipment
  • How to safely get in and out of a rowing boat
  • Water safety and confidence drills
  • Basic rowing technique on the water
  • How to row together in time as part of a crew
  • Core skills such as balance, blade control, and teamwork

 

By the end of the course, you will have gained practical experience rowing on the Thames and the skills needed to continue rowing regularly.

Junior Learn to Row at Brentford Boat Club

Our Junior Learn to Row courses introduce young people aged 13–18 to the fundamentals of rowing in a safe, supportive and enjoyable environment at our Dukes Meadow site in West London.

 

These courses are a great way for teenagers to try one of the UK’s most iconic river sports, develop confidence on the water and build fitness while learning the fundamentals of rowing.

 

Rowing is a unique sport that combines teamwork, technique, fitness and time on the water, and our Learn to Row programmes are the perfect first step into the rowing community.

 

No previous rowing experience is required, and specialist equipment is not needed.

Participants must be aged 13–18 and be able to swim at least 50 metres confidently in light clothing

 

All sessions are delivered by experienced coaches and supported by trained club volunteers.
